Attic Insulation

Uninsulated Attic pic

Is your attic uninsulated?

More than a quarter of your heat is being unnecessarily lost as heat rises through your uninsulated attic! Through the many leaks in an attic, air can leave the house or air can penetrate from outside. This results in a substantial amount of heat loss, as well as leading to various moisture and mould related problems. (Above Left: Thermal image of heat escaping through an uninsulated roof)

Lack of Insulation
Heat Loss
High Heating Bills

Insulating your attic, loft or flat roof is a great starting point to cost-effectively upgrading the heating efficiency of your home. By creating a warm comfortable home through insulation you are also reducing the risk of illness: Research by Cardiff University’s Common Cold Centre in Wales has proven that “a drop in body temperature can cause a dormant cold virus to develop”.

Is your attic insulated…

…. but there’s frost on your neighbour’s roof and none on yours? .. and the snow on your roof melts faster than your neighbours? This is a good indicator that your attic has low levels of insulation.  Your heat and money are going straight out the roof! Take the time to check the current depth of the insulation. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) recommends an attic insulation depth of 300mm or 12″.

Properly installed attic insulation is effective for many years and it will pay for itself over and over again during that time.

Example: Insulating a 50 sq.m. (540 sq.ft) attic space of an average-sized house typically pays for itself in approximately 3 years.
